Kyan was born in the early morning of February 7, 2006. That same morning, our nephew, Craig's fishing boat, the Catherine M, was lost on the Tillamook/Garibaldi Bar. All three crew were lost. They had attempted to cross on a strong ebb tide, and since Craig was always going against the tide, and that's what took his life, we chose the registered name of "Raftered Hearts Buckin' the Tide"

He had the sweet personality of both parents

Kyan loved to run and play.

Just beautiful to behold, this is how I like to remember him.

It's great to have a big brother to bully.

Being born early in the year, this was Kyan's third show. He attended five in his first year alone.

Kyan passed away April 13, 2007 in his stall to an undetermined head injury. He was gone when I found him, and beyond my help. He's buried here in our woods, not far from the barn where he took his first breath and the pasture where he lived all 14 months and one week of his life. His grandmother, his mother, older and younger brother are here to remind us both of what we've lost and still have. Far too short a time we had with him. Page updated April 14, 2007
